The Escape of Cronus Destroyer of All Things
The Escape of Cronus
Destroyer of All Things
Chronos
Cronus attempted to establish a rule based on the principles of law. Fearing rebellion Cronus changed his ways. Cronus imprisoned the Cyclops and Hecatonchiri in Tartarus and appointed the dragoness Campe to guard them. Alarmed by the prophecy that he would be overthrown by one of his children Cronus began to devour them one by one. The story of Cronus eating his own children is also a specific time within the realm of Cronus's mythological domain representing the destruction of time that had taken over all things.
This idea arose when the Titan king ate the gods of Olympus. Cronus is based on Chronos the original god of time in Orphic theology. Many generations later Zeus released Cronos and his brothers from prison and made the Titans kings of the Elysian Islands home of the holy dead. Cronos was the king of the Titans and the god of time especially time which was seen as a destructive and all-consuming force.
The ancients were so named because they shared similar names, but some ancient documents suggest that Cronus and Cronus were actually the same god. This belief became more prevalent during the Renaissance when time was considered a father and time was called "father time". Some Greek myths stated that Cronus was the brother or sister of Kyros. Cronus's EscapeAfter being dethroned Cronus either fled to Lazio now Lazio or was imprisoned in Tartarus with the other Titans. Either way he seems to have reverted to his old ways as over time he was promoted to ruler of the Isles of the Blessed a paradise-like abode where the souls of heroes reside after their earthly deaths.
Uranus and Chronos
Uranus the sky came with the night and the desire of love. He lay down around Gaia the earth and spread himself over her. Then the son stretched out his left hand from the ambush and took a great sickle with sharp teeth in his right hand and quickly cut off the limbs of his father and threw them behind him. And they fell out of his hand in vain for Gaia the earth received drops of blood from which she gushed. And when the seasons came she bore the strong Erinyes and the great Giantess giants [perhaps Curetes Curetes in shining armor holding long spears in their hands and the Nymphae nymphs whom they called Melia Melia throughout the boundless world.
And as soon as he had cut off the limbs with flint and thrown them from the land into the sea where the waves beat they were carried away by the main river for a long time and white foam spread out around them from the immortal flesh. And therein grew up young women but these sons who bore themselves the great Ouranos Sky used to call the Titans Titan Refiners to rebuke them because they said that they had humiliated and done terrible things in boastfulness and would take revenge on them later.”
