Legendary rock formations in France are often associated with local legends and mythical creatures These mythological creatures interactions with humans are numerous and easily visible at night but only humans possess clairvoyance during the day These stories and fragments of myths share several common characteristics leading to the idea that the northern coastal people of Upper Brittany possessed the Hul fairy in the 19th century These fragments considered demigods were likely worshipped locally by the Upper Bretons until their beliefs declined They are immortal powerful and immune to disease They fear salt which makes them appear human They live in caves and burrows on coastal cliffs surrounded by coral reefs
The area from the coast of Cancale to Treveniac in France has few legends about these creatures These large rock formations which form fertile valleys are often depicted by waving wands and sparse land Near the Quaire de la Bourboule square there is a small legendary peak The fairies reside on this granite mountain The ruins of the lodge are located in the municipality of Crans-Montana The Rocher des Fées is a small hiking trail through the forest and is inaccessible without long ladders or climbing equipment It is more visible in winter The view is unobstructed by the foliage of the trees situated at an elevation of approximately 1,265 meters above sea level
The granite rocks whose shapes are inspired by and have a very similar story are found on the island of Guernsey The Croix-des-Fès rocks are covered in mica a silicate mineral with a distinctive physical characteristic that makes them shine like gold Edgar McCulloch believes this is the source of the legend of enormous treasures and the dances that occur at night under full moons Along the English Channel coast from Cancale to Treveniac in upper Brittany and to the Channel Islands they inhabit coastal caves and burrows called hulls and are renowned for their beauty and immortal power
