Fresco of Cassandra's prophecy with the presence of presumably Hector, Pompeii
Agamemnon almost defeated the Greek army in the Trojan War so Ptroclus joined the war Ptroclus put on Achilles' armor and led the Myrmidons into battle until Hector mistakenly believed that Ptroclus was Achilles so he fought with all his might and killed Ptroclus which caused a rift with the general Agamemnon and the Greek warrior Achilles until Achilles returned to battle and was able to kill Hector and used Ajax's belt to tie Hector's body to the chariot and drag him back to camp After killing Hector Achilles removed his armor and tied Hector's body to the chariot by the heels
He drags the body around Troy as the Trojans watch from the walls and mourn especially Hector's wife Andromeda Achilles refuses to return the body to the Trojans as is customary in warfare so Achilles surrenders Hector's body to the old king Priam He sneaks into the Greek camp to plead for Hector's body back to Troy Achilles who had previously refused to fight because Agamemnon had insulted him and defeated him must honor the body and return it so that he can be properly buried After Hector predicts Achilles death by telling him that he will be killed by Paris and Apollo Achilles destruction of Hector's body is considered an insult to the gods and ultimately leads to Achilles's downfall
The burial site of the Trojan hero over four hundred miles away is the Tomb of Hector located in Kadiananda Uzumlu Turkey This sacred temple which offers a dignified death for the sake of purity is not certain whether it actually contains Hector’s body The physical similarity in structure to the Tomb of Hector the Trojan hero from the Iliad which was once slumped down a hill by an earthquake is now in ruins but it is still a significant historical and cultural site in ancient classical literature known as the Tomb of Hector
