The Porta Sarno is a large stone gate with two pedestrian paths located in the northeast of the city Evidence of Roman life In addition to the Porta Sarno Pompeii also has other city gates that are an important part of the city's infrastructure and defenses which are very old and well-preserved Excavations in 1998 revealed more than 50 burials in the tombs including stone tablets and arched tomb monuments These two bas-reliefs were moved to the Palestra Grande of the excavation site for restoration A large tomb was found above 

the tombs with relief figures of a woman and a man The carvings and the antique characteristics of these figures date back to the late Republican period probably a couple and consist of a large wall with many niches One of the most important pieces on display in the exhibition A Woman in Ancient Pompeii the symbolic ornaments carved on the tomb of this woman may indicate that she was a priestess of Ceres It opens on April 16 Visitors can also see

the intricate restoration work that will be carried out during the exhibition Begun in July 2024 it corresponds to the area excavated in the 1990s for the construction of the Circumvesuviana double-deck railway The nearly life-size bas-reliefs of men and women from a mass grave in the Porta Sarno necropolis are part of the research project The Archaeology of Death in Pompeii carried out by the University of Valencia in collaboration with the Archaeological Park under the scientific supervision of Professor Llorence Alaponte.
