Guardian deity of the mountaintop in the land Kommachin

The ancient Hellenistic kingdom of Comagene in southern Anatolia occupied a small area. Its culture was a blend of Greek and Persian influences amidst the powerful empires of the time situated along the Euphrates River and the Taurus Mountains which separate the Mediterranean coast from the central Anatolian plateau. Comagene had a small capital city Samosata and was surrounded by other empires such as the Roman and Parthian empires.

The ancient stone statues on Mount Nemrut Nemrut Dağı are located on a mountaintop approximately 2,150 meters high near the city of Adıyaman in southeastern Turkey.

An ancient cemetery perched high in the Adiyaman province in southeastern Turkey served as a burial site and a place of worship demonstrating a connection between the people and the gods. Today only the remains of colossal stone sculptures from the 1st century BC remain. These sculptures of gods are surrounded by smaller rock carvings of Greek and Persian deities as well as statues of lions and eagles.

The stone terrace contains the ruins of colossal sculptures of gods and kings most notably the heads with tall  ancient-style hats from the Commagene kingdom.

These stone carvings served as a guardian of the sacred site on the mountaintop during the reign of King Antiochus I of Comagene. The mystery lies in the high conical rock formation at the very top believed to have once housed the burial chamber of King Antiochus I yet to be discovered. In the Hellenistic era after leading war elephants from India to defeat the Gauls in Asia Minor in 275 BC

the art of fusion of Greek and Persian gods was created at the behest of King Antiochus I. It combined the Greek god Zeus with Ahura Mazda the supreme god of ancient Greece along with Ares the god of courage strength and war. It also incorporated Heracles and Artaghnes to protect the sacred rituals of Apollo and Hermes the gods of the sun light and communication. This art style encompassed Apollo Mithra Helios and Hermes. 

The stone statues on Mount Nemrut the actual Mount Nemrut located in southeastern Turkey were created by King Antiochus I of the Commaghene Kingdom in 62 BC.

The flowing forms of the Greek human form were blended with the seriousness formality and geometric lines of the Achaemenid Persian kingdom of the Comageine period. This is a fusion of culture and art Greek and Persian art. The bas-reliefs and artifacts from Asia Minor present-day Turkey showcase a blend of styles such as Persian costumes and jewelry but utilizing Greek compositional techniques and dimensions. This resulted from cultural fusion following expansion and conquest including the production of gold silver and precious vessels reflecting the opulent tastes of the Persian court combined with patterns and craftsmanship from the Aegean world.
