The unique conical stepped pyramid structure is a significant archaeological site in western Mesoamerica the Guachimontones archaeological site located in Jalisco state Mexico is notable for its distinctive conical circular structures consisting of ten circular buildings surrounding a main pyramid. It is believed to have served as the spiritual center of the Teuchitlán people.

The discovery of these unique structures surrounded by concentric circular courtyards and a large football field and amphitheater demonstrates the complex urban planning and community management of the Teuchitlán culture the center of their prosperity was clearly located in the Tequila Valley indicating the Teuchitlán period and the construction of these circular ceremonial courtyards and structures.

The site served as a focal point for the "Danza de los Voladores" Dance of the Flyers ritual a worship of the wind god this cultural contrast with the civilizations of central Mexico making it a crucial religious and spiritual center in the pre-Guachimontones era. Guachi-Montones boasts one of the largest ball courts in North Mesoamerica and is also the only known example of a Mesoamerican amphitheater and a thriving agricultural society in its fertile valley.
